Trauma Processing with
Super Resourcing (or EMDR)

How does it work?

After our first 80-minute Intake Session, we will make a treatment plan led by your goals and informed by my professional assessment. Together, we will make a thorough history or trauma timeline in a way that is supportive and not re-traumatizing. Depending upon our treatment plan, we will soon move into processing identified pain points.

I like to tell my clients that Attachment Focused EMDR prepares them to face their trauma and then works to change their relationship to it. I’ve had my own EMDR therapy and found it both powerful and quite fast in terms of experiencing the world differently. However, most people don’t want to re-live their worst traumas - even when well supported in therapy and through preparation. For this reason, I strongly prefer Super Resourcing. This modality focuses on supporting the part of you that feels afraid, uncomfortable, angry, powerless, or even “bad” because of the trauma. You can find out more about Super Resourcing by clicking here.

I have seen some individual traumas resolve after just one session. Of course, every person and every trauma is different; I cannot predict anyone’s pace, nor do I guarantee results within a certain timeframe. But I do see results, and I see them every single week in my practice.

A session of Super Resourcing will be scheduled once we feel we have identified an area or “target” that needs attention. Most clients benefit from planning for a longer, 80-minute session. Using bilateral stimulation (which connects the logical side of the brain with the creative side), we will strengthen your relationship with your healing and your strengths. Some clinicians use eye movement to engage both hemispheres of the brain, while others use sound. I find that gentle tapping works well for my clients. This tapping can be done in virtual sessions or in my office with a device called Thera-Tappers™.

We begin by identifying a Peaceful Place and using the bilateral tapping to “install” the resource - which means strengthening your ability to access the resource using physical, emotional, and cognitive awareness. I will follow your lead, notice barriers that arise, and support appropriate movement through them. We next focus on a Nurturing Figure, then a Protective Figure and a Wise Figure. After a few more supports are identified, we use the information gathered to create a meta-field where your reparative experience is highlighted and enhanced further.

At the end of the session, we use containment tools to manage anything that arose that wasn’t attended to, we review our discoveries, and we reassess. At this point, I usually give a homework assignment, typically an art project that will help you to continue to make connections between the logical and creative hemispheres of the brain.
